SenseGlove is offering a Master-level internship project focused on the design and implementation of control algorithms for a multi-DOF, tendon-driven humanoid robotic hand.
Position Overview
SenseGlove develops advanced haptic and robotic interaction systems, such as force-feedback gloves. We are currently developing robotic hands that work in tandem with our gloves to provide a complete teleoperation solution for use in research, training, and tele-robotics. In this project, you will work on the control stack of a tendon-driven robotic hand. Your work will focus on position and force control, with the goal of achieving stable, accurate, and safe manipulation.
As a final validation step, the robotic hand will be operated using a SenseGlove (the R1 glove), demonstrating that the controller performs robustly under human-in-the-loop operation.
Responsibilities
- Model relevant aspects of a tendon-driven finger system
- Design and implement position, force, or hybrid control strategies
- Integrate sensor feedback (encoders, force and pressure sensors)
- Tune controller stability
- Experimentally evaluate control performance in:
- Free-space motion
- Contact with rigid and compliant objects
- Grasping and holding scenarios
- Document methods, results, and design trade-offs
- Deliver a final demonstration using the Force Grasp robotic hand controlled via the R1 glove
Who We’re Looking For
- You are enrolled in the Robotics master or a closely related field.
- You have a strong foundation in:
- Feedback control
- System dynamics
- Linear systems (experience with nonlinear systems is a plus)
- Additionally, you are:
- Comfortable working with real robotic hardware
- Proficient in C++ and Python
- Analytical, structured, and interested in experimental validation
What we offer?
- Duration: 3–6 months (flexible)
- Access to real tendon-driven robotic hardware
- Opportunity to extend into a thesis topic
- Opportunity to publish or contribute to internal research outputs
- Validation through real-world tele-operation
- A collaborative R&D environment in Rotterdam
- An open and vibrant work culture
- Bi-weekly company lunch
- Quarterly team activities
- Weekly fresh fruit delivery in office
- Monthly compensation of €342
